Current PCDP chair, Beth Thompson, has issued the following endorsement for Michelle Davis.

As Chair of the Putnam County Democratic Party from 2009 to the present, (and as I am not seeking reelection), I would like to point out some of our accomplishments of the past two years and ask for your vote for Michelle Davis to assist in paving the way forward. We have a large, attractive office with plenty of visibility on the progressive and artistic West Side of town. We have been able to raise funds and keep a healthy bank balance in order to hold on to that office space and just signed a year’s lease in December 2010. Plans are in place for a rummage sale, a Kennedy Dinner and, of course, spring and summer picnics are always a big hit. Movie night, game night, Dunkin’ with Dems and Dem Party Squared have been popular social activities and Dem Party Squared in particular has turned out to be a wonderful fundraiser, having raised approximately $1,200 to date and, with all supplies donated, at NO COST to the party.

Things are already gearing up for the 2012 election cycle, and it is looking like the Republicans are having a hard time figuring out who they want to be. We, as Democrats, must keep our eye on the prize and not fall in to the same sort of identity crisis and give in to the pseudo-conservatism that is trying to take hold of some in our party. Let us remind the voters of why we’re Democrats to begin with: unions, farmers, good jobs, opposition to unregulated business and finance, altruism, open-mindedness, NOT controlled by big corporations, religion, or fear. We must never lose that message!

We are extremely proud of all we’ve been able to accomplish over the past two years, but, make no mistake, it doesn’t come without its fair share of hard work. Michelle is the person we need to pick it up and take off from here. She almost never misses a meeting, special event or rally; she has given extra assistance to the party by way of staying in tune with environmental concerns and labor issues, especially at Tennessee Tech; she consistantly SHOWS UP for volunteer opportunities with and for Democratic candidates; and, keeping the PCDP moving forward is paramount in her mind. Please consider giving her your support on April 9.
